GO TO THE BEGINNING OF THE BLOG

As winter arrives... it was 13 degrees this morning... work on the cottage continues.  The siding is up and we've gotten some really nice comments about it.  My feeling is that you will love it or hate it, but you won't be indifferent.  At certain times of the day in certain lights, the yellow is quite pronounced.  I suspect it will get a neighborhood nickname of the "Lemon House" which is not at all its nature.

The drywalling is complete for the most part and the painting has started.  Due to an unexpected surgery, I have been unable to do that work, but my entire family and some friends have been working during all of their spare time to do that.  Painting new drywall is different from painting drywall that has previously been sealed.  Triple you original estimate of paint you'll need.

The hardwood flooring has been stacked inside to acclimate prior to installation.  The bathrooms will be tiled starting in a few days.  Those two efforts are necessary before the cabinets and sinks and toilets and finished plumbing can be done.  We are hoping that January will see a flurry of activity to get things done.  We also have to arrange for a finish carpenter to complete the stairs and moldings.

Then we can only hope that the inspectors are satisfied and no further delays occur.

One open issue is to be resolved: the foundation work necessitated the builder putting in a sump pump which now dumps out all over the yard.  Somehow that mess has to be eliminated.

Nothing is ever as simple as it first seems.
