Taking Shape On The Inside

GO TO THE BEGINNING OF THE BLOG

It's been a difficult week for us because of the surgery and not being able to be involved with the developments at the cottage.  Still, Lou and Michelle and Kim at Pine Building have things well under control.

Today, it was sunny and in the mid-70s so there was no way we were going to sit around the house.  Kathy drove us to the cottage where we took a look around.

The forms for the concrete parking pad, porch, and garage are in place and the sand base has been leveled and compressed.

There is an access to the "Michigan basement"... our 6 ft. high "crawl space" by way of a steep set of stairs.

The utilities were going on the concrete pad before the inspector decided that they had to be higher.  Now they will be above the platform on the right that is on top of the concrete pad.

The crawlspace is about 45' long.  The bright light to the left of center is the opening that was to be the original access to the crawlspace... before it was lowered another 4 feet.

So, it looks as if there is an opportunity to put a lot of seldom-used items in big Rubbermaid containers down there.

Meanwhile, the interior is in a state of flux as the heating ducts, plumbing, and electrical wiring are being installed.

We brought in a geometry teacher for this part.

Once these inside-the-walls items are in place, the interior will quickly take shape with the addition of insulation and drywall.

While Pine Building's crews are moving along, Kathy and I will be zeroing in on paint colors and door hardware and hardwood stains and granite vanity tops.  In two days, we meet with Lori from Acorn Kitchens to go through the final details and get the factory busy building the cabinets.
